Algerian Ivy Resembling Painting–Sacramento, CA (Trippy Travel Photo #28)

Trippy Travel Photo 28

Trippy Travel Photo 28 is of hedera algeriensis—aka, Algerian Ivy.

Did I know this when I shot the photo? No, absolutely not. And where the heck was I when took it? State Capitol Park, Sacramento, CA., home of the California Legislature since 1869.

The person who won the game is listed below. She followed these steps to win.

1. Look at the Photo/Study the Details

Trippy Travel Photo 28

2. Guess whether it’s real or a painting.

Do they look real? If so, why? If not, why not?

Is this a painting? If so, explain why you think so. If not, tell me why.

Bonus points: And if you’re really at the top of your game–he, he–please tell me exactly what you’re looking and and where was I traveling when I saw them. If you can do that, well….wow…you get bonus points! (However, it’s not necessary to do this to win. That, I know, is a very difficult task.)

3. Check Back Later!

–Post your guesses here in the Comments Section (tweets and FB comments don’t count–sorry)

–Keep checking and guessing as the guessing gets good…

–See who won…maybe it will be you!

The Prize?

A mention of your name and a link to your site from within this post.

And the Winner Is…

Maria Falvey of Accelerated Stall! Maria often plays this game and this is the first time she’s won. Congrats!!

The Answer: Algerian Ivy (Hedera algeriensis) in Sacramento, CA

Algerian Ivy–aka, Hedera algeriensis–is what you see in the photo. I thought it was beautiful and unique somehow; it resembled a painting–hence, this round of the game (guessing whether it was real or not). As mentioned above, I spotted it when visiting the California State Capitol Park.

Can’t get enough?

It kind of looks like an art projects using real pressed leaves, so I think it’s both art and real.

Real! The edges of the leaves make me think they’re real.

Howdy, Maria! Very interesting what you’ve said. What specifically about the edges?

Hi, Maria. I think I’m going to go ahead and declare you the winner of this round (even though Robert came close). You guessed it first. So, congratulations on winning the Trippy Travel Photo game. Yes, the leaves were real! :) And I shot the photo in Sacramento, California, btw. :)

Real. The top right hand green leaf is definitely real, and the top left hand corner looks like an out-of-focus background of a photo. Therefore = a photo of a real plant.

Oh, and my wife has just reminded me that we have had one of these growing here at home. She calls it a white ivy.

The white leaves are real – sometimes nature looks surreal :)

    I hope I made it on time..hehe,

I would say that this is real. Like Maria said the edges of the leaves makes it real and also there is depth on one of the leaves.

But one feature that really convinced me that its real is because of the dirt on the leaves. These are sandy like dirt you get when you water the plant or in this case the leaves.

But of course.., I could be wrong be wrong you know.. hehe

Hi, James. Actually, I’ve already declared Maria the winner, but thanks for playing anyway. You are right, by the way. The leaves in the photo are real. I like your explanation re: why you think so!

New game coming soon. One will need to be good at IDing architecture to win it! :)
