This photo is of the SkyWheel ride at Niagara Falls, which takes riders 175 feet above the Falls. A bit surreal, isn’t it? Looks a little bit like a space station on another planet. Or part of a toy, up close or photographed in miniature…
We had a winner (named below) rather quickly this time around (versus the last game, which was super challenging). He followed these steps in order to win…
1. Look at the photo/Study the details
2. Guess what/where!
What is it? Where was I traveling when I saw it? And if you end up guessing both rather quickly, you’ll need to be even more specific re: what it is you’re looking at.
3. Use the clue/s.
Clue 1: This is not off the beaten path. In fact, many tourists see this every year–thousands and thousands, I’m sure.
Clue 2: It is not part of a space station on another planet.
4. Check back later!
–Post your guesses here in the Comments Section (tweets and FB comments don’t count–sorry)
–Keep checking and guessing as the guessing gets good…
–See who won…maybe it will be you!
The prize?
A mention of your name and a link to your site from within this post.
And the winner is…
Jeruen Dery of Memoirs of a Traveling Linguist: Year 8.
I’m not surprised that he won. He’s a regular on this site and plays this game a lot. He’s also a super bright guy who can guess not just the easy photos, but also the trickier ones!
The answer: The SkyWheel at Niagara Falls
I had the opportunity to ride the SkyWheel recently when I visited the Falls, then Toronto. It was fun being up in the gondola, watching the sun set. Here’s another photo from farther away.
Can’t get enough?

OK, well, that structure is pretty big, and looks to be a dome shape. Most dome structures are sporting arenas. It is very modern, and I am tossing up between Europe, Asia and North America.
Hmm… I’ll start with North America as the continent.
Hmmm. Very good guess! But no, not an arena. As for the continent, yes–North America!
You definitely got the ball rolling, but…someone else won. Check out the answer and the extra photos I added. I think you’ll enjoy them.
Thanks for playing!
Hey Lisa!
Long time no talk, you lured me here with the promise of a mystery photo
Is this the London Eye?
Hope all is well, hear you have a book coming out, I’ll have to get my hands on a copy.
Best,
Kate
Hi, Kate. How have you been? Nice to see you here.
Great guess, but…no. Check the other contestant’s comment. He guessed the continent and so, he’s ‘warm’ at the moment. But that can change quickly…
Yes, the book is out–finally! Right now, it’s just for Kindle ($2.99 today…sometimes it’s a little more) or devices that use the app. I’m about to start to work on the paperback. Thanks for your interest in it!
The winner’s been announced…and a few more pics have been added. I think you’ll enjoy them!
So we know so far that this is in North America. I am guessing this is somewhere in Toronto. Maybe somewhere bright, the Eaton Centre?

Excellent, Jeruen–very warm. Hot guess, actually. It’s in Ontario, but not in Toronto…
Also, what do you think it is?
Not in Toronto, but in Ontario. You mentioned that thousands and thousands of tourists see this. So my latest guess would be that this is part of a ride (a ferris wheel or some rotating vehicle) in Canada’s Wonderland, directly north of Toronto, but not in Toronto. I remember whenever I take the bus from Buffalo to Toronto during the summer months, there are always passengers asking which bus to take to get there.

You are SO close to winning this! Yes, it’s part of a ferris wheel or sorts–a special one that’s a major attraction at this particular tourist site (visited by zillions–I know, not a word–of people every year). It’s not north of Toronto, but south (maybe slightly southeast). Does that help? 😉
Of course! The Niagara Falls Skywheel! At first I thought, south of Toronto is Lake Ontario, how could it be? Well, I only needed a few more seconds to think outside the box.

Yup–that’s it. You are the official winner. Congrats!
Will list you soon and update the post (to change the title, etc.).
Thanks for playing and have a great day!
Just added your name/link to your blog (hope I have the name right) and posted a few more pics. Enjoy!
Thanks for the game again Lisa! It’s always a tricky one, and keeps my brain working. I really love the unconventional perspective your original photos have on things!

Ferris wheel – Toronto?

Great guess, but someone already got it. It’s a Niagara Falls.
Just added a few more pics of it that you might enjoy…
Thx for playing!
Love the pic!
