This photo is of Tirta Empul Temple (Pura Tirta Empul in Bahasa), a Hindu temple in the middle in Bali where people go to purify themselves with holy water. The day I was there, it was rainy–very wet–and that didn’t matter. It only added to the beauty of the experience and the photos.
Those who played this round of the Trippy Travel Photo Game followed these steps…
1. Look at the Photo/Study the Details
2. Guess what/where!
What is it? Where was I traveling when I saw it? (You must answer both to win–or come very close!)
3. Use the clue/s.
Clue 1: This is not off the beaten path.
Clue 2: It was a rainy day when I shot this photo. But even it hadn’t been, there still would have been water in it.
4. Check back later!
–Post your guesses here in the Comments Section (tweets and FB comments don’t count–sorry)
–Keep checking and guessing as the guessing gets good…
–See who won…maybe it will be you!
The prize?
A mention of your name and a link to your site from within this post.
And the winner is…
Jessica of Notes of Nomads! She nailed it–even spelled the name right.
Congratulations to her!
We also have a runner-up. That’s Estrin of Chubbybene. She guessed Ubud, which is pretty darn close. Congrats to her, too!
Thanks to everyone for playing!
The answer: Tirta Empul Temple (Pura Tirta Empul)
Tirta Empul, aka Tampak Siring Temple, is a holy water temple that is built around a spring. It’s located at Tampak Siring Village, less than 1/2 hour from Ubud. Many Balinese participate in sacred ritual bathing, known as Melukat, at this site.
The day I went, it was raining, but it was still amazing to see. There were many ‘offerings’ there–the flower petals and other items used as gifts to the gods (to ward off evil). They were everywhere, including in the water.
Can’t get enough?

Flowers in the rain. Central America, after a festival?

I fumbled this around in my head for — well a long time. At first I thought it was saffron but it’s not. As to the location I’m at an even bigger loss. I do plan to come back and find out, however. It’s driving me nuts!
Thank you for sharing,
Barry

Hi, Barry. Welcome to the bus!
It’s driving you nuts, huh? Cool. That means I’ve done my job well.
If you get a chance, you might want to check out the other comment (and my response). There are definitely some clues in there, which might help you. Thanks for visiting/playing!
I did take time to read the comment and I’ll look into it more later. Right now I’ve been up most of the night and I’m just brain fried! Just been making random searches on the web for photography most of the night. I’m strange like that but for now I best grab some zzzz’s

Fried brain, huh? LOL Hope you got the zzzz’s that you need!
PS: Another comment came in that was ‘warm,’ so there’s a new clue.
Cherry Blossom Festival, Tokyo?
Hi, Rachelle. Great guess! Wrong country, but correct region of the world. Very ‘warm’ answer compared to the others!
Argh. My second guess was Kyoto, so that’s out. Hmmmm. Those walkways look familiar somehow, and I’ve spend a ton of time in Asia. . . Ciphering. . .

You’re doing great–close in a way. Someone’s narrowed it down to Bali and is currently in the lead. Can you take it from there? Perhaps you’ve visited this particular place and know what those flowers are about?
It seems a South East Asia kind of thing with all the flowers a kind of ‘Bali Hai’ South Pacific idea – and I see you have been to Indonesia – so I will plump for Djakarta or somewhere on Bali.

Hi, David. Doing well. You’re right that it’s Bali! Can you pinpoint where? It’s a special place and what’s in the photo is a special thing? Right now, you’re in the lead…
Hi,
I see someone got the answer.
I didn’t dig any deeper for an answer – I would have been relying on Google to find the way

Thanks for playing!
Bangkok? I remember there being a big flower market there…

Great guess, Daniel! Getting close! One of the other ‘players’ guessed Indonesia, which is correct. However, they haven’t pinpointed where and what exactly. The game is still on!
Based on your hint that it’s not off the beaten path, it would have to be Bali. And I see someone has already guessed that. I’ve only ever been to Sumatra, so there’s no way I can help narrow it down any further. Good luck to everyone else. I like this game though–great idea!
Hi, Daniel. Sumatra? Me, too. Loved it! Will have to check out your blog and see what you wrote about it. Cool place!
Glad you like the game! I always have fun watching people play it!
Indonesia! – Based on other readers’ guesses and your replies… However, I have no idea what the event would have been.

That is the correct country! You’re very warm. Did you read the clues in the post? There’s one that has to do with water. It might help…
I have been to Bali, but I can’t do it! The only celebration I was there for was Nyepi . . Good luck to everyone else!
Nyepi? Hmmm. Haven’t heard of it. Cool name. Thanks for playing and we’ll see what happens next!
Hi Lisa! This is fun..I’m gonna start with Ubud, Bali. Maybe it’s in some spa in Ubud? I love the picture
Hola, chica! You are getting close. Right now, you are winning the game! Not a spa, however. A place for something more serious… Water is an important part of that, too.
Buena suerte!
Head northeast…
And glad you like the photo!
Hmmm..I will try to guess again later

Someone just won…
But perhaps you’ll be a runner up since you were very close. I think Ubud is 30 minutes away.
The answer is: Tirta Empul/Tampak Siring Temple.
That’s fine…I’ve never been to Tampak Siring before. Lol.. Thanks, Lisa..Being runner up is also great!! Can’t wait for your Rendang post
Congrats! I can’t wait for that post, either. I think I’ll have to make the Rendang, using Eti’s recipe and/or yours to see how it goes. I can photograph it, too. Will be cool, I think.
Is it at Tirta Empul/Tampak Siring Temple?

Yes! Congratulations–you are the official winner! Jessica at Notes of Nomads, right? http://www.notesofnomads.com?
When you visited, was it raining? When I was there, it was. A few times, the rain was heavy, too.
Thank you! Yep, that’s right!
Yes, it was raining! Pouring actually. But what’s a day in Ubud without a torrential downpour or two

Jessica recently posted..RTW Travel Update: Let’s Talk Passports
True re: Ubud and the surrounding area–rainy for sure!
Thanks for playing…I just posted your name and the link. New game in about a week or so. Cheers!
Thanks so much! I’ll keep an eye out for the next one
