I was enjoying a tropical fruit cocktail in San Juan del Sur–a tranquil fishing village in Nicaragua–right before I snapped this photo. The sun was setting and many people had stopped what they were doing to watch the sunset. Others, however, continued with whatever activity they were involved in–like these guys who were playing soccer on the beach.
For this particular photo, I decided to focus on the silhouette of the palm fronds hanging off the edge of the bar, which resulted in the cool blur of the athletes who were in motion.
Your Experience?
Have you visited San Juan del Sur? If so, how’d you like the sunset? If you haven’t been there, would you like to go? I highly recommend Nicaragua, by the way. I preferred it to Costa Rica, actually.
Do you like to shoot photos that include intentional blur? If so, what do you usually do to make that happen?
Can’t get enough?

Thank you, Erica. So glad you like it so much!
I didn’t make it to San Juan del Sur, heard it was too touristy. I did however meet two fellow backpackers while in Nicaragua who were robbed on the beach in San Juan by the same guy two weeks apart.
I would also recommend visiting Nicaragua, really enjoyed Ometepe, and did see a brilliant sunset while there.
Hi, Dave. Yikes re: the robbery. What a shame. When I was there, it felt pretty safe, but one never knows….
I also liked Ometepe. Great spot!
AWESOME photo! I’m guessing this one wasn’t taken with your phone, right?

Thanks so much, Gray. I love silhouettes and blur–especially when combined somehow.
Very nice picture
Nice pic! We will be in SJDS in June. Any tips?
Hi, Laurie. I recall there being a day trip to some local and sort of virgin beaches. About $5 or 10 for the (bumpy) truck ride over. Once there, it’s pretty cool to check out, but hot as hell. High SPF, a hat and tons of water required. Enjoy!
Beautiful shot. Nice sharing. I really like this sunset photo.
Thanks!
Thank you so much! My kids love the beach
