Trippy Travel Photo #16: McKenzie River Rainbow, Oregon

Trippy Travel Photo 16

In this round of Trippy Travel Photo, the image was identified as a rainbow in Oregon somewhere in the Cascade Mountain Range. More specifically, it’s a photo of the McKenzie River, near the Cougar (Terwilliger) Hot Springs–a lovely spot not far from Eugene.

To arrive at this answer, the contestants followed these steps:

1. Look at the Photo/Study the Details

2. Guess What/Where/Why!

What is the subject of this photo?

Where was I traveling when I saw it?

(If you have no idea, it’s OK to make up silly answers. That’s fun, too!)

3. Check Back Later!

–Post your guesses here in the Comments Section (tweets and FB comments don’t count–sorry)

–Keep checking and guessing as the guessing gets good…

–See who won…maybe it will be you!

The Prize?

A mention of your name and a link to your site from within this post.

And the Winner Is….

Monika of Travel World Online. She narrowed it down to two states, Washington and Oregon. She also mentioned the Cascades in one of her guesses, so she nailed it!

The Answer: McKenzie River Rainbow, Oregon

A rainbow over the McKenzie River in Oregon, the location of the Terwilliger (Cougar) Hot Springs.

I was there with some friends a few years ago while on the West Coast and enjoyed a walk in the forest and a dip in the hot springs. Both were wonderful. I felt fortunate to have gone there as I felt the kind of peace I only feel when I’m in nature.

Can’t get enough?

      Good guess, but no–wrong country!

Well, it’s tropical, judging from the clinging vine. The sheer rock wall and ferns say it is in the mountains, as does the fast flowing water. So, let me take a half-guess and say it is in the Andes Mountain range.

Nice guess, but…no. It’s not in the tropics, and it’s not in the Andes. Hmmm, Robert, are you getting rusty? LOL I’m know your next guess will be better. By the way, you’re sorta cold, but not freezing.

Beautiful photo. It looks like I waterfall, but not sure where. I’m going to guess Iguazu Falls – Argentina side.

Great guess, Alouise! But no, that’s not it. Try moving north and your next guess might be closer!

All I can say is that that is a very beautiful picture. As much as I want to guess I really do not have any idea. :(

    Gee… I felt sooo confident too :-(
So it’s not tropical, and further north than Iguazzu, so it is northern hemisphere. So, Canada, US and Mexico.
I would classify Mexico as tropical, and you haven’t been to Canada that I know of, so I will say “USA”.
It is mountains, doesn’t feel like Rockies, so I’ll guess Appalachians.

You’re getting very warm. Yes to the USA! No to the Appalachian Mts.

Is this a collage? :) I guess the subject is nature, rainbow specifically. Your in a forest or falls where you have taken those photos. :)

Good guess, Nicole. It does look like a collage! And yes, that’s a rainbow. Check Robert W’s comments and see what country we’ve narrowed it down to. Perhaps you’ll unravel the mystery here!

Hi, Nate. Closer to NJ than Argentina and other people’s guesses. But not NJ! Yes to the USA. :)

Hi! This is a great idea! My guess is a waterfall in the Cascades in either Oregon or Washington State.

Hi, Travel World Online. Glad you like it! And guess what? You’re officially in the lead right now! It IS one of those two countries. If you can guess which one, then you’ll be the winner! If someone else jumps in before you do that, we may have a tie on our hands. Hopefully, that won’t happen…

In this case I go for Washington State :)

    • CB Driver
      February 22, 2012 | 8:20 am

Well, it’s actually the other state–Oregon. But since you did so well–and came so close–I’m going to declare you the winner! I’ll be posting the exact location shortly and listing you as the person who guessed it!

      Thanks for playing!

Thanks so much, Gray. It was also a lovely moment. I was with friends I met online who lived in Oregon and they offered to take me wherever I wanted to go. I told them “hot springs” and we ended up there. Will never forget their kindness!
