The winner
Holger of Trip With a Meaning. His winning guess: “…Central America. Maybe South. Rather Central though.
My guess is: They are bags that contain, contained or will contain coffee beans. That something billions enjoy, right?
(I know I do).”
OK–he didn’t say Panama, but…he was pretty warm. Also, he identified the “items” perfectly. To me, that makes him the official winner!
The answer: Coffee Bean Bags Drying on a Fence at Café Ruiz in Boquete, Panama
I was in the middle of a tour of the Café Ruiz Coffee Estate in Boquete Panama when I noticed this unusual site. The bags, which held coffee and had been washed out (I think), were drying on a fence and were going to be reused for the next batch of beans. They caught my eye because they appeared to be ghosts or phantoms of some sort, and that’s trippy; hence, I chose them for this game.
Can’t get enough?

I’m going with mailbags, India, to lug mail around.
That or they’re mailbags in India which are about to be recycled into something useful. They look like cotton or nylon so maybe they get recycled into… er… still thinking… um clothes of some kind, t-shirts?

Hi, Josh. Welcome to the bus! I love your guess; it’s fantastic and makes so much sense. It’s brilliant, actually. Unfortunately, it’s not correct. I have not been to India…yet. I think you’re on the right track, however, in terms of something that’s used for something else in a way that’s not wasteful. “They” are, in a sense, being recycled. And I would think they’re made of nylon, so at the moment, you’re in first place!
Thanks for playing–look forward to seeing your next guess (if you have one). Cheers!
Cool, this is fun. OK round 2, ding ding.
Well the writing on the bags looks like I’m on the right continent so I’m going with Indonesia this time. And are they mail bags but being used to transport something else, so in a sense recycled for a different purpose? Perhaps carrying food stuffs?
Josh Aggars recently posted..Rio de Janeiro Street Art Photo Essay
Hi, again. Yes, ding dong–lol! Funny that you switched over to Indonesia on this one and fascinating that it might have something to do with the writing on the bags. I must look more closely. You’re making me wonder now if Country X bought the bags from somewhere in Country Y in Southeast Asia. Hmmm.
Anyway, it’s not Indonesia. Still, you are technically winning because you’ve guessed that they’re “bags” used to carry “food stuffs.” And that, in a sense, is correct…so far! Try another continent and I think you’ll do even better!
I want to guess China for the country, but I really have no idea. I’ve been sitting here for at least 10 minutes racking my brain over this. 😛

Hi, Danielle. I’ve been to China, but….that’s not the location of these particular items in this particular photo. Great guess, though! If you look at the last person’s comment, you’ll see some clues that might help. It’s now been narrowed down to “bags” carrying “foodstuffs.” True, they’re bags. They’re not for food exactly, but that’s close enough for now. So…what really goes in those “phantom bags” and where. Next clue: Not Asia.
India(country)-scarves tied(dyed) for worship if fence.
Hi, Sue. That is a wonderful guess! However, it’s not correct. Not long after you guessed, someone else did and actually got the items and country right. I will post both (the person and the mystery photo’s identity) soon.
Meanwhile, thanks so much for playing; I hope you’ll play again!
I am going to say somewhere in Latin America, possibly Honduras. They look like fertilizer bags which when empty are reused to carry the corn. Great game btw.

Hi, Jennifer. That is a fantastic guess–definitely the right region and you’re warm in terms of the ‘bags.’ Anyway, someone guessed a little while ago and got the answer, which I’ll be posting shortly. I hope you’ll check back in and see. Thanks so much for playing!
Hmmm …
I’ll guess Central America. Maybe South. Rather Central though.
My guess is: They are bags that contain, contained or will contain coffee beans. That something billions enjoy, right?
(I know I do).
Cheers from Belize

Hi there…and congratulations! I’m declaring you the winner–even though you haven’t officially guessed the exact country. You’ve guessed the identity of the items with 100% accuracy and are totally in the right region, so…that’s good enough for me.
In a little while, I’ll post the exact location and complete description–and announce you as the winner and include a link back to your site. Thanks so much for playing and congratulations! This is the fastest anyone has ever guessed correctly during the game!
Woohoo, very cool.
Thanks for the link love.

You’re very welcome, Holger. Well-deserved! I was amazing a the speed at which you guessed!
Bags for rice. Random guess….Myanmar.
Changing my Myanmar guess, keeping my rice guess. Malaysia!
Claire recently posted..A Little Shame and Embarrassment Abroad
Hi, Claire. Both guesses were great! Unfortunately, someone else got the answer. I suspect the other person actually visited the same place (or one just like it). Anyway, I’m going to post the exact identity of the items, the location and the back story. Thank you for playing!
That’s what I’m thinking too that it’s within Central or South America. I am thinking too that they are bags that contain, contained or will contain coffee beans. I also see this bag similar to Philippines I guess. But anyway, congratulations to the winner.
Hi, Jake. Do they use the same bags in the Philippines? Interesting.
