Shopping at the Souk

Random Stop

Souk al-Hamidiyeh in Damascus, Syria, is one of the most famous bazaars in the world.

Located next to the southern walls of the city’s citadel, close to the Grand Umayyad Mosque, the Souk is 600 meters long and you can buy anything there, from scarves to ice cream to pots/pans to antiques. While there are a good number of tourists there, it didn’t freak me out the way the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul did.

One of my favorite areas of the market was where they sold spices and dried fruits. That’s what this “random stop” shot is of.
